Juno Beach was the code name of one of the five main landing sites of the Allied invasion of the coast of Normandy on D-Day during World War II. It was situated between Sword Beach and Gold Beach. It is also known as the Canadian beach, as it was assigned to the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division. Juno Beach stretched from Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer on the east to Courseulles-sur-Mer on the west. The 3rd Canadian Division was placed under the command of British I Corps for the initial phase of the invasion, and did not come under Canadian command again until July 1944 and the establishment of II Canadian Corps headquarters in Normandy. Although Juno Beach was assigned to the Canadians, a number of British units (commandos, specialised armour and assault engineers) were present supporting the Canadian assault. The naval component of the invasion force was known as Force J.

Specificly the first wave of Canadian solders from the North Shore Regiment (3rd Canadian Division) at Nan sector, Juno beach. The video was captured by a camera on board the landing craft. Canadian soldiers hit the beaches and began the deadliest run of their lives. As they worked their way through the obstacles and minefields they came into the killing zones of the German gun positions. 340 Canadians died out of 1074 total casualties on June 6th.

Juno Beach - The Canadians On D-Day On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord, the long-awaited invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe, began with Allied armies from the US, Britain and Canada landing on the coast of Normandy. On D-Day, the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division landed on Juno Beach. The Canadian assault troops stormed ashore in the face of fierce opposition from German strongholds and mined beach obstacles. The soldiers raced across the wide-open beaches swept with machine gun fire, and stormed the gun positions. In fierce hand-to-hand fighting, they fought their way into the towns of Bernières, Courseulles and St. Aubin and then advanced inland, securing a critical bridgehead for the allied invasion. The victory was a turning point in World War II and led to the liberation of Europe and the defeat of Nazi Germany. Fourteen thousand young Canadians stormed Juno Beach on D-Day. Their courage, determination and self-sacrifice were the immediate reasons for the success in those critical hours. The fighting they endured was fierce and frightening. The price they paid was high - the battles for the beachhead cost 340 Canadian lives and another 574 wounded. John Keegan, eminent British historian who wrote Six Armies in Normandy, stated the following concerning the Canadian 3rd Division on D-Day: At the end of the day, its forward elements stood deeper into France than those of any other division. The opposition the Canadians faced was stronger than that of any other beach <b>...</b>

Just a D-Day tribute I have just make. Maybe its not so good as the one I made last year, if you want to check it out, cilck the linke below www.youtube.com . But i tried to do my best. You are the ones who say if I did. However, this video is in meory of those who died 65 years ago, in a day like this (but it was a cloudy one). The Operation Overlord was originaly for June 5th, but there was a bad weather, so it was for the next day, June 6th, 1944. the landing took place in 5 becahes. Code names: Utah, Omaha, Juno, Gold and Sword. the american troops would take Utah and Omaha, as the 2nd Ranger Battalion would take Point Du Hoc, some clifts between Utah and Omaha, with some guns avaible to stop the invasion. While the american troops took those beaches, the britishs would take Gold and Sword beach with the help of some french guys added to the 4th Commando. And the canadian troops would take Juno beach. The americans had several loses in Omaha beach, about 9000 soldiers down. In Utah, the soldiers landed in the wrong place, yes, the wrong place. So, once in land, traveled to the german bunkers and attacked them from the rear. In Point Du Hoc, they faced death from the top of the clifts. Only few of the soldiers in the first wave reached the top of them. In Juno, the canadian troops had many cassualties, maybe so much as the americans in Omaha. The brits advanced trhought hell and engagged the enemy. But... we shouldnt remember just the soldiers that landed in the <b>...</b>

War memorials and tourism: The beaches at Normandy are still referred to on maps and signposts by their invasion codenames. There are several vast cemeteries in the area. The American cemetery, in Colleville-sur-Mer, contains row upon row of identical white crosses and Stars of David, immaculately kept, commemorating the American dead. Commonwealth graves, in many locations, use white headstones engraved with the person's religious symbol and their unit insignia. The largest cemetery in Normandy is the La Cambe German war cemetery, which features granite stones almost flush with the ground and groups of low-set crosses. There is also a Polish cemetery. Streets near the beaches are still named after the units that fought there, and occasional markers commemorate notable incidents. At significant points, such as Pointe du Hoc and Pegasus Bridge, there are plaques, memorials or small museums. The Mulberry harbour still sits in the sea at Arromanches. In Sainte-Mère-Église, a dummy paratrooper hangs from the church spire. On Juno Beach, the Canadian government has built the Juno Beach Information Centre, commemorating one of the most significant events in Canadian military history. In Caen is a large Museum for Peace, which is dedicated to peace generally, rather than only to the battle. Aftermath and Significance of the Battle After overrunning the German beach defenses, the Allies rapidly expanded the individual beachheads, and the workhorse amphibious craft quickly <b>...</b>

This is footage taken in Juno Beach, FL in January 2010. I was doing a demo for 2010 RRD windsurf and SUP gear there. I'm the sailor with the white sail and board. The board is an 8'5" Wassup and the sail a 5'6" WaveVogue. The board was supposed to come with footstraps inserts but unfortunately it didn't. I still had a great time on it but I would have had more fun and more control with straps in those conditions. In yellow, local sailor Robert Peters shows how it's done on the Diamond 9'6" Classic and the SuperStyle 6.3. Thanks Rob for the great show! Unfortunately the videographer showed up with his camera later in the afternoon after Rob and I had been on the water for several hours already. Thank you, thank you Dasher (www.dasherfilms.com) for filming and putting this together the way you did.!! Thanks for you attempt to make me look good :-) Thank's to Rick Randall from Maui Malones for hosting the demo and getting Rob over there.
