England Saxons is the current name of England's men's second national rugby union team. The team has previously been known by a number of names, such as England B, Emerging England and, most recently, England A. The Saxons play a key role in the development of emerging talent, allowing players to gain experience in an international environment and to show that they have the ability to perform at Test level for the England first team. England Saxons were unbeaten for 13 games until losing to Ireland A, now known as Ireland Wolfhounds, in the 2009 Churchill Cup Final on the 21st June 2009.

England Saxons is one of three sides that regularly compete in the annual Churchill Cup competition, the others being the full national teams of Canada and the United States. Since 2006, they have also played two matches, against Ireland Wolfhounds and Italy A, in parallel with the full Six Nations Championship.

The Saxons are currently coached by RFU coach Stuart Lancaster, assisted by the Rugby Football Union’s National Academy coach Simon Hardy and ex-England player Andy Farrell.

Miraculously preserved over the centuries, its artistic importance was unrecognized until an essay by JRR Tolkien (The Lord of the Rings) revealed its unity and multi-dimensional structure. Beowulf is now regarded as the most important manuscript the Anglo-Saxons have handed down to us, of immense linguistic as well as poetic value. This program sets out to trace the origins of the tribes that brought this epic into being, the war-like Northmen from Sweden, Denmark and Germany who were to conquer and settle regions of a more clement and fertile island that would become known as England, named after the tribe of the Angles. Using 3-D animation, location footage, archive materials and interviews, the Beowulf epic is examined in the light of the civilization that created it. It investigates their religious beliefs as well as their everyday life, and suggests that, old as the poem is, it may have roots in an even more ancient fertility cult.

14th. October 1066 when Duke William of Normandy battled the Anglo-Saxon King of England Harold Godwinson for the throne of England. William's army of 8400 strong, consists of 2200 mailed knights,1700 archers & 4500 men-at-arms, while Harold's army of 7500 men-at-arms including 2000 huscarls (his bodyguard). Harold Godwinson had just defeated Harold Hardrada & his invading Norwegian Viking army at the battle of Stamford bridge, & marched south to meet William at Hastings forming a shield wall. While showering the Saxons with archers & the men were engaged, William ordered an attack followed by a false retreat on the Saxon's right while the Saxons charged after them & at this point William sent his Knights to cut down the charging Saxons which weakened their line of defense. As dusk approached, Harold took an arrow in his right eye & was struck several times by William's knights while chasing the fleeing Saxons. The Remaning Huscarls, chose to stay and fought till the last man. William the Conqueror became King of England.
