Coles Express is an Australian chain of fuel and convenience stores. The business venture and corresponding fuel discount offer was launched in July 2003 in response to the similar offer by rival Woolworths Limited some years earlier, proving attractive to shoppers.

Coles Myer purchased the retail business of Shell Australia multi-site franchisees in 2003 for A$94 million. Shell is the exclusive supplier of fuel products, leases the service station property to Coles, and maintains the presence of the "pecten" and other Shell branding on the price board and other signage.

Approximately 249 independently franchised Shell service stations, particularly in country areas, remain unassociated with Coles Express, however the company has an agreement with 19 outlets where the fuel discount offer is accepted.

It was a 1963 GMC COE tractor with front tandem axle and a dromedary tank. It allowed Coles Express to haul fuel oil from Bangor Maine and haul Potatoes back on the return trip. This unit is the last of four and the only one now known to exist. The end of the video shows a few vintage movie clips of the truck. Tank-vans can also been seen in my other video "Coles Express - The Uncommon Carrier". This truck is now on permanent display at the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor, Maine.

Because of the facility's size, it was dubbed "Cole City". Coles Express was a LTL (less-than-truck load) truck freight carrier started in 1917 and continued through 1997. To see portions of this facility in 1971 and in color, please watch the other video "Coles Express: The Uncommon Carrier". This video was originally 29 minutes long but was edited down to 10 minutes. A majority of removed material were interior office shots and storage facilities. The end credits as seen in a video linked to this one, feature the song written for Coles Express by the Mallett Brothers "Winter of '31" and how Allie Cole, the founder of Coles Express, was the first to plow the roads between Lincoln and Houlton Maine. Cole City still exists today although no longer by owned by the Cole family. Use Google Maps or Google Earth to visit 444 Perry Road, Bangor, ME. The general offices are the smallest building and the AJ Cole & Sons (now Freightliner of Maine) has the writing on the top. A few updates, the 5 acres of land purchased on the other side of Perry Road (mentioned by Galen in the introduction) was later used in 1989 for the Cole Land Transportation Museum.
