"…Baby One More Time" garnered international praise from music critics, with most calling it the highlight of the album. "…Baby One More Time" achieved commercial success, reaching the top spot in every country where it charted, and remains Spears' most successful single. In the United Kingdom, it became the highest selling single of 1999, and is worldwide one of the best-selling singles of all time, with over nine million copies sold. An accompanying music video was directed by Nigel Dick. It portrays Spears as a student from a Catholic high school, who starts to daydream that she is singing and dancing around the school, while watching her love interest from afar. The music video was later reference in the music video of "If U Seek Amy", were Spears' fictional daughter is dressed with a similar schoolgirl outfit while wearing pink ribbons in her hair. Later, in 2010, the music video for "...Baby One More Time" was voted the third most influential video in the history of pop music. Today, the song is considered a classic of the pop music genre and it continues to be highly influential within the world of popular music. "…Baby One More Time" has been performed on every Spears tour since its release. On ...Baby One More Time Tour, the encore consisted of a performance of the song, while on Oops!... I Did It Again World Tour, the song was performed after dance interlude in which the dancers showed their individual moves while their names appeared on the screens. The song was also the encore of 2001's Dream Within a Dream Tour, and, for The Onyx Hotel Tour, the song was reworked for the show with elements of jazz and blues. It was also performed on the promotional tour made on some House of Blues locations, called The M+M's Tour, while on 2009's The Circus Starring Britney Spears, the song made into the Electro Circ act and was also performed on Spears' 2011 world tour; The Femme Fatale Tour. |
