Anatolian rock ( ) is a fusion of Turkish folk and rock music. It emerged during the mid-1960s, soon after rock groups such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Status Quo and Omega became popular in Turkey. Examples of this style include Turkish musicians such as Cem Karaca, Barış Manço, Erkin Koray, Fikret Kızılok and Murat Ses alongside bands such as Moğollar, Kurtalan Ekspres, Mavi Işıklar, Apaşlar and Kardaşlar. Today, Anatolian rock is a general term used to describe music derived from both traditional Turkish folk music and rock.

Fikret Kızılok was born in Istanbul in 1946. He completed his high school education at Galatasaray Lisesi in Istanbul. His songs were inspiring both because of their structures and soft but meaningful lyrics. He was one of the leading names during the Anatolian Rock era which combined rock music with elements of traditional Anatolian music. en.wikipedia.org

Bir Of Çeksem by Cem Karaca (& Ferdy Klein Orchestra/Apa$lar?) This track, great example of Anatolian Rock, is also from the '70ies. It's originally an old anonym Turkish folk song, wich is for decades played by many people, traditionally with Saz. Cem Karaca put this beautifull anatolian song, in another jacket. By western instruments in general (guitars, drums, bass) it's lightly influenced by western patterns and different rythyms. Today, as young amateur 'musicians' we just tried make a cover, within our possibilities. We do not have any musical education, we just love Anatolian Rock from the early '70ies, and it's our hobby to practise in our own standards.. So we came together and practised this thing.. Maybe it is not much , but it's a thing, our thing :) Instruments: 12 string acoustic guitar (ibanez)- ercan (me) acoustic guitar (crafter) - Deniz semi-acoustic guitar (vanderson) - Ferit vocals - Ferit back vocals - me semi-acoustic bass (richwood) - Ahmet conga's - Miki Turkish saz ("baglama") - Bülent guests - Mehmet (with Camera and Maraca's, samba balls) Much pleasure! ercan.punt.nl

Edali Gelin.. (Fully acoustic!) Recorded 01 december 2006, at my home in Helmond (Noord Brabant, Netherlands) Special thanks for my friends who came from a long distance, Deniz (Amsterdam), Ferit (from Schiedam) and Bulent (from 's-Hertogenbosch). 12 string acoustic guitar by me (Ercan) semi acoustic guitar by Ferit vocalist Ferit bass (by classic guitar!) by Ahmet bongo's by Deniz Conga's by Miki guests: - Mehmet (camera) - Bulent (turkish saz.. but not in this track) Edali Gelin' is a Turkish (Anatolian Rock) track wich is later covered by Cem Karaca and the Mogollar band in a psychedelic format, in the early '70ies. It's the far most favourite psychedelic track of mine, that I everd heard from Cem Karaca (I think I have 250 tracks of him) His voice in this track is so uncomparable..... So much emotion and in great harmony with the sound of the music, I can't tell enough. It was a great honour and pleasure to re-make this anno 2006, with such young friends! ercan.punt.nl

Bin Boga'nin Kizi (intro) This song from Baris Manco & Mogollar came out in 1971, the beautifull electro guitar solo, thereafter the typical (vox continental?) syntheseiser solo of Murat Ses make this number a 'must-listen' for the Anatolian Rock lovers.. Today, 15 december 2006, we have several Cem Karaca covers and decided to switch over to Baris Manço and this evening: it's the FIRST evening we tried this number. No further preparings, we miss a syntheseiser (I tried to play that part with 12string guitar but, as you can hear, i must practise this first!) Thanks to my friends, Carel Ferit Ahmet and Deniz who made this possible!! ercan.punt.nl

Merhaba. Barış Manço was one of the most influential Turkish musicians of all times. In his early career he and his bands contributed to the Anatolian rock movement by combining traditional Turkish music with rock influences, which is still one of the main trends of Turkish popular music. His visual image characterised by his long hair, mustache and big rings softened the reaction of otherwise conservative Turkish public opinion regarding the marginal visual appearances. His experimentation with electronic instruments in the late 1980s contributed to the 1990s sound of Turkish popular music. His lyrics with diverse themes, mostly following a somewhat modernized version of the "aşık" (wandering folk poets) tradition were heavily marginal in the popular music scene... more en.wikipedia.org
