Western New England College is a private university in Springfield, Massachusetts. Academic programs are provided through its School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Law, and School of Pharmacy.

In recognition of its master's and doctoral programs, Western New England College will officially become Western New England University on July 1, 2011. This will mark the return of "university" to the school's name, exactly 60 years after separating from Northeastern University.

The college is a member of the Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield and a partner in the Hartford-Springfield Region's Knowledge Corridor Initiative.

Their bridge held 22 bricks, smashing the old record of 16 bricks set two years ago. As part of their final project, students enrolled in the Western New England College School of Engineering's Mechanics of Materials course tested the strength of their bridge design through the placement of bricks. Students were given four sheets of poster board, eight Popsicle sticks, string, Elmer's glue, and two sewing needles. The completed bridge must have met specifications and had pleasing aesthetic qualities. Bricks were placed on the bridges until they collapsed. For their effort, Cole and Carrigan received the coveted Mechanics of Materials Gold Brick Award. The strength to weight ratio for their bridge was an impressive 219.

Famed music educator Roberta Guaspari delivered the keynote address and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Former professional women's basketball player and Olympic Gold Medalist Rebecca Lobo, a native of Southwick, received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Jessica Vogel was the student speaker. 684 students received undergraduate degrees from the College.
