West Lothian ( , ) is one of the 32 unitary council areas in Scotland, and a Lieutenancy area. It borders the City of Edinburgh, Falkirk, North Lanarkshire, the Scottish Borders and South Lanarkshire.

The council area was created in 1996, under the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994, with the boundaries of the West Lothian district of the Lothian region.

Tonight (24/05/09) sees the first live semi-final of this years Britains Got Talent and due to appear are: Susan Boyle - singer Sue Son - violinist Nick Hell - extreme street performer Darth Jackson - impersonator Julia Naidenko - belly dancer Diversity - dance group Faces of Disco - Comedy impersonators Natalie Okri - singer Susan Boyle appeared in the first BGT audition show, way back in April and has since taken the world by storm. Her performance of I Dreamed A Dream has been mentioned in every national newspaper and many international, she has even had a spot on Oprah for goodness sake. So with all this exposure and coverage there is no way that Cowell and Co will want to lose Boyle from the show. When they favour an act so heavily you will often find that the production team will award them with the final slot of the evening. If they perform last they are fresh in the publics mind when the voting lines open and if you look at the American Idol stats you will see just how lucky the last performer is. With this in mind it is fairly likely that Susan will close the show tomorrow night and I think she is a shoe in for the final, its a foregone conclusion really. Firefighters were called to the petrol station at Morrisons in Livingston at 1550 BST as petrol on the ground caught fire from a car which was well alight. At least 28 firefighters were called to the scene as the fire had spread to the petrol pumps. The fire at the station on Alderstone Road, which has been closed, has caused diversions at the Adam Brae Roundabout. A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The urgency and concern was due to the fire spreading to the petrol pumps. "We received 12 calls about this fire and because we were on the scene within five minutes we were able to put out the fire out before it set the pumps alight." The petrol pumps were still being hosed down at 1700 BST in a bid to cool them down.
