Davon Hudson from Wisconsin Lutheran High School going for 11 feet at Watertown, comes up short and hangs on to the grip instead of sliding down the pole. He actually lands back on the pit, double-bending the pole. After he lets go, the pole releases and flies more than 15 feet in the air and lands about 30 feet away in the crowd.

Alexandra Graham from Wisconsin Lutheran HS vaults at a Watertown meet May 2007. Allie warmed up great, as usual, but the bar goes up ... and her feet come down. I was sure she would PR with 10' at least today, but a poorly timed storm move through and the wind changed to a headwind. She comes in at 8' and blew it away, then we passed to 9' 3" to try to get the vaults in before the headwind ... it was too late. She stalled in the wind and came up short on 9' 3". Her new PR would have to wait.

SHIELDS, Wis. -- Rain is helping fire crews as they continue to dump water on a massive tire fire in Dodge County at Watertown Tire Recyclers. After the fire broke out at about 10 am Tuesday, smoke rose more than 4200 feet in the air and could be seen from both Madison and Milwaukee. One-third of a building on the ground burned away and collapsed. No injuries were reported, but flames leapt as high as 80 to 100 feet into the air. The fire could burn for several days, firefighters said, and the building at Rich and Provini Road is expected to be a total loss. Tom Springer, owner of Watertown tire recycling plant, was licensed to hold 200000 tires, but there were more than 1 million at the site, reported WISC-TV in Madison. The operation has been out of compliance with the DNR and a target of local environmental groups. Barb Palocek, a DNR solid and hazardous waste specialist, was sitting down with the owner in his office -- which is now gone -- just Tuesday morning. "I was in the office, making a compliance check when someone ran in and yelled, 'Fire!' We called 911, and it was mayhem," Palocek said. Now, the DNR must determine what impact the fire will have on the environment. Since the plant is in a rural area, there are no fire hydrants. Fourteen departments and 120 firefighters implemented a high-tech fire line, running water from Watertown a mile and a half out into the country. Tire fires are difficult to fight. A Virginia tire fire took months to put down in 1983 ...

Visit the Octagon House and first kindergarten in watertown ,wi.usa.The Octagon House , five floors of solid brick construction completed in 1854, was designed and built by John Richards, a pioneer Watertown settler. The House is one of the largest single family residences of the Pre-Civil War Period in Wisconsin Richards arrived in Watertown, on foot, in the spring of 1837. Once here he became the first lawyer in Jefferson County, as well as the owner of several mills. In 1849 he married his sweetheart, the former Eliza Forbes. He promised to build her the finest home in the Wisconsin Territory if she would marry him. Its construction includes central heating, running water and ventilating systems. In addition to those "modern conveniences," the house features a central spiral staircase which rises from the first floor to the tower room. The Richards family and their descendants resided in the home until 1937, when grandson William Thomas passed away. At that time the remaining family members were faced with what to do with the family home, which had become one of Watertown's' most recognizable landmarks. The Richards family offered to sell it to the city for $ 1, but opposition from the city council and several citizens prevented that from ...
