Washington County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. The county was named in honor of George Washington, first President of the United States of America. As of 2010, the population was 17,581. Its county seat is Chatom. Washington County is a dry county.

Washington County was where the major league baseball player Wilmer David "Vinegar Bend" Mizell (1930 1999) played ball. Mizell served as a Republican congressman from North Carolina from 1969-1975.
