Entry from: Kosciuszko National Park, Australia Entry Title: "Still Snowy Mountains" Entry: "1st December - 3rd December Distance Travelled: 2016km After saying our goodbyes to our Wagga Wagga hosts we drove eastward and onto the Snowy mountains highway. It is a great drive that passes through little towns like Adelong and Tumut. Thanks to the brand new radiator the car managed the steep climb at Talbingo to the top of the ranges with ease and from there we enjoyed the scenic drive to Jindabyne. Highlights along the way was the deserted gold rush town of Kiandra, which also had Australia's first ski field, and The masses of dead looking ghostly white trees. We stayed in the national park at a campsite near Sawpit creek. It was very quiet and much colder than we packed for! Although we had a long way to drive today we only set off at 11:00 to give us the extra hours in 6 days time when returning the rental car. Alan and Nada were their helpful selves in driving us into town and then leading us out to the freeway, but first was the inevitable goodbye's. Even though we had only been there a week, it was just as hard to say goodbye. We left with a feeling of going too soon, but one day returning to see more of the area and travel up the centre of Oz. Aidan was looking forward to driving again even if it was to be an automatic. He was throwing himself in the deep end by choosing this to be the longest drive of the week; an 8 hour stonker, which would take us to Portland on the south coast of Victoria, ideally located for an early start on the great ocean road the following day. On the way down we managed to take advantage of some nice photo opportunities, like a purple salt lake, where the flies were relentless in there quest to annoy every photographer around the lakes perimeter. A more memorable stop however, was that of Mt Gambier, not just because it was our chance to get stuck into our ...
