Vermilion Parish is part of the Abbeville Micropolitan Statistical Area as well as the Lafayette - Acadiana Combined Statistical Area.

Vermilion and neighboring Cameron parishes are represented in the Louisiana House of Representatives by the Republican Jonathan W. Perry of Kaplan.
