The United States presidential election of 2000 was a contest between Republican candidate George W. Bush, then-governor of Texas and son of former president George H. W. Bush (1989 1993), and Democratic candidate Al Gore, then-Vice President.

Bill Clinton, the incumbent President, was vacating the position after serving the maximum two terms allowed by the Twenty-second Amendment. Bush narrowly won the November 7 election, with 271 electoral votes to Gore's 266 (with one elector abstaining in the official tally).

The election was noteworthy for a controversy over the awarding of Florida's 25 electoral votes, the subsequent recount process in that state, and the unusual event of the winning candidate having received fewer popular votes than the runner-up. It was the fourth election in which the electoral vote did not reflect the popular vote.

A bit of fun, if somewhat negative campaigning by the Democrats in the 2000 Presidential election. Didn't actually air from what I've heard.

The United States Supreme Court in Bush vs Gore made three decisions that eventually lead to George Bush becoming the 43rd President of the United States of American in the year 2000. Just in case you're only 12 years old, or if you used to live as a hermit somewhere, I will tell you in brief what happened, as I lived through the entire event and paid much attention to the court cases and news coverage of the event. On election night the news media called the election wrong by calling the state of Florida wrong, first for Gore, and then for Bush. After that the votes in Florida were counted and Bush was the winner, but it was close, so there was a recount of the votes and Bush won again. So twice Bush won the vote count, but that was not good enough for the ruthless democrats; they would win at any cost. So the democrats went where they always go when they cannot get their way, they went to the courts to try and steal the election from Bush. The State Supreme Court of Florida ordered recounts but they were only recounting in the highly democratic areas and they were doing it in a nonstandard way. Basically they were trying to determine the intent of the voter. I voted on the same machines as the ones in question and I had no problem at all. I poked the little stylist thing in the hole and then I knocked all of the hanging chad off of the back per the instructions on the voting machine. If a person was not able to follow the instructions then they had no business voting in ...

A complimentary tribute to the man that needs no introduction. You know him from such places as down the hall from the oval office, the concession stand, and on his soap box. No offense to Al Gore.

Partisans of the Bush administration reflexively deflect criticism of the president by urging critics to imagine how much worse things would be if Al Gore were in the Oval Office. Check out Will Grigg's excellent blog @ www.freedominourtime.blogspot.com
