U.S. Route 40 is an east - west United States highway. As with most routes whose numbers end in a zero, U.S. 40 once traversed the entire United States. It is one of the original 1920s U.S. Highways, and its first termini were San Francisco, California, and Atlantic City, New Jersey. The western end has been truncated several times, and the route now ends at Interstate 80 just outside of Park City, Utah, near Salt Lake City.

Starting at its western terminus in Utah, U.S. 40 crosses a total of 12 states, including Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey. Three former and four current state capitals lie along the route. For much of its route, U.S. 40 runs parallel to or concurrently with several major Interstate Highways: Interstate 70 from Colorado, to Washington, Pennsylvania; and again from Hancock, Maryland to Baltimore, Maryland; Interstate 64 in parts of Missouri and Illinois; Interstate 68 along the Maryland Panhandle; and Interstate 95 from Baltimore to New Castle, Delaware.

The route was built on top of several older highways, most notably the National Road and Victory Highway. The National Road was created in 1806 by an act of Congress to serve as the first Federally funded highway construction project. When completed it connected Cumberland, Maryland, with Vandalia, Illinois. The Victory Highway was designated as a memorial to World War I veterans and went from Kansas City, Missouri to San Francisco, California. Other important roads that have become part of U.S. 40 include Zane's Trace in Ohio, Braddock Road in Maryland and Pennsylvania, part of the Oregon Trail in Kansas, and the Lincoln Highway (the first road across America) in California.

an interstate project halted by community protest in the 1970s but not before construction of a 1.4 mile portion that caused the demolition of 20 blocks of row-houses and churches on Baltimore's west side. Entire neighborhoods were wiped out and nearly 3000 people displaced... 2011 I visited this strip of land for what might be the final call of Incomplete I-170/ US 40

Entry from: Albuquerque, United States Entry Title: "Point me in the direction of Albuquerque" Entry: "Today started slightly different than previous days... namely... we ate something other than waffles. Additionally, we had to pay for our continental breakfast.... lame-o. So we left Amarillo (for those of you who are fellow coffee fiends, yes we hit starbucks on the way out), and headed for Albuquerque, NM (only a short 4 hours and 30 minutes)! PS if the dude from the Starbucks on some road in Amarillo is reading this, it is NOT only about 3 hours to Albuquerque.... you should not get a girls hopes up like that... ;) So we got on I-40 AGAIN and drove our way out of TX and into New Mexico (The land of enchantment, I might add). Along the way we saw some pretty cool fields of wind turbines and some pretty sweet herds of cows.... Also saw a ridiculous chair made of cow pieces and crazy travel stories on a bathroom stall....... exciting stuff for sure. Once in New Mexico the scenery changed (Thank God! no more plains and prairies!) to plateaus, and well... that's pretty much it. We stayed on I-40 for the remainder of the trip only exiting for gas and bathroom breaks..... not a good combo... hahaha. Oh you know I mean gasoline... for the car... sillies. Most notable bathroom break, however, was on the old ...

This clip takes you on the 559 Lakewood Local. The 559 is the local version of the 319 Express. There used to be a 319 Local that ran on Route 9 to New York. The 559 was made and now the 319 is a Express run on the Garden State Parkway, however making a stop in Toms River and runs that go to Jersey City.

Get your kicks on route sixty-six. I took a road trip through few states for a fun gateway alone. There was no one on it most of the time. I stopped in New Mexico and contacted someone to hook up, but he responded as I was entering the end of the state. Don't mess with Texas. I almost ran out of gas there. I felt really manic.I looked at the sky and blamed it on the moon & my period. The photos that were part of this video are an inside joke.
