U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security and charged with regulating and facilitating international trade, collecting import duties, and enforcing U.S. regulations, including trade, customs and immigration. CBP is the largest law enforcement agency in the United States. It has a workforce of more than 42,389 sworn Federal Agents and Officers. It has its headquarters in Washington, DC.

While its primary mission is preventing terrorists and terrorist weapons from entering the United States, CBP is also responsible for apprehending individuals attempting to enter the United States illegally, stemming the flow of illegal drugs and other contraband, protecting United States agricultural and economic interests from harmful pests and diseases, and protecting American businesses from intellectual property theft.

US Customs and Border Protection Office, Attn: International Trade Regulations and Rulings, Mint Annex, 799 9th Street, NW Washington, DC 20229// Attn: Intellectual Property and Restricted Merchandise Branch// Commissioner Ahern, I have become aware that CBP is revoking earlier rulings that assisted opening knives (that require manual manipulation to deploy!) are NOT switchblades. Since many courts and legislative bodies rely upon these CBP knife definitions, this revised ruling will have broad and unintended consequences. Your re-definition of these folding knives will create foolish bureaucracy and regulation, criminalize millions of good people, create more economic hardship by destroying the knife and tool industry (and the military/LE access to these items as well), and in the end will only lessen public safety. • Knives are already highly regulated with current laws, both on national and local levels. Millions of good people across the country use folding knives for duty, utility tasks, outdoors activities, emergency services, rescue operations, and for legal defensive purposes. This CBP interpretation burdens law enforcement and will instantly criminalize about 40 million good people. It is very unlikely anyone would dispose of any knives and it will create unnecessary enmity between citizenry and government. • The economy is failing. And yet your ruling will make it worse. The outlawing of assisted opening AND most other folding knives with this ruling will ...

Stephen Kremer, Atlanta port director for US Customs and Border Protection, shows GlobalAtlanta reporter Trevor Williams how to use a new Global Entry kiosk at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Overseen by the Department of Homeland Security, the program that allows pre-screened international air travelers returning to the US to bypass the passport control line, saving time and hopefully keeping America safer by allowing border officers to focus on "higher-risk" passengers.

Dear Senator or Representative (insert Congressmans name and office address here!): • Millions of good people across the country use folding knives for duty, utility tasks, outdoors activities, emergency services, rescue operations, and for legal defensive purposes. The Office of US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is however seeking to change that and turn these good people into criminals. • CBP is revoking earlier rulings that assisted opening knives (that require manual manipulation to deploy!) are NOT switchblades. Since many courts and legislative bodies rely upon these CBP knife definitions, this revised ruling will have broad and unintended consequences. It promise to affect all knives too, not just imports. • With this re-definition, most folding knives will be interpreted as illegal despite the smokescreen of disinformation that CBP is dispensing over this issue. It will create unneeded bureaucracy, more unenforceable laws that will burden peace officers, have devastating effects upon ...

NEW YORK - Authorities arrested a US citizen in connection with the failed bombing attempt in New York's Times Square as he tried to leave the country, Attorney General Eric Holder said Tuesday. Faisal Shahzad was arrested at 11:45 pm ET Monday night by Customs and Border Protection agents as he attempted to board an Emirates airlines flight to Dubai at New York's JFK airport, Holder and other officials said. "It is clear that the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans," Holder said.

While visiting DC in May, we came across the US Border Patrol pipes and drum corp practicing outside the Ronald Reagan building. They were gathering for the national police week ceremonies that would be held throughout the week. They very kindly offered to play a set for us; it was very cool to hear such a great group! It was like a personal concert for us only. Thanks, guys!

Transcript by (www.newsy.com) BY NICOLE NIZIOLEK You're watching multisource US video news analysis from Newsy. HOMELAND SECURITY SEC. JANET NAPOLITANO "We have thousands of men and women who work to secure the border, and work every day to do that. It can be very dangerous work." (KVOA) That's Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano talking immigration just days after the high-profile killing of a US border agent. The murder of border patrol agent Brian Terry near the US-Mexican border is renewing national attention on the immigration debate. Border patrol agents say a group of bandits shot Terry just miles north of the Mexican border earlier this week. KMSB reports, one suspect is no stranger to immigration officials. "One of the four men in custody, Manuel Osario Arellanes a Mexican national who has been deported from the US at least once. This is a mugshot from 2006, when he was convicted of aggravated assault in Maricopa County." TONY ESTRADA, SHERIFF: "These people are taking advantage of anything that moves through this area to make a profit, and they're dangerous." The Tucson Citizen reports, not all of the suspects are necessarily Mexican nationals. Some are likely US citizens, who know their victims are unlikely to seek help. "Then we have the bandits ... preying on illegal immigrants and drug smugglers. Illegal immigrants are exposed to serious risk of rape and robbery while crossing into the US by the bandits. Prosecuting the bandits has been almost ...

These are some scary mofos. They are the worst in law enforcement. I first met customs back in the summer of 2010 on my first trip to Mexico. For those who have never (and hopefully never will) cross paths with them, they are like the Los Angeles Sheriff's department: Crooked, egregiously BRUTAL and stupid to boot. Yet, they got a lot of power, a lot of unabridged, substantial power, which makes them all the more dangerous. As you will hear in the tape, Officer Gomez lets me know that he has unabridged power, that he can do "whatever he wants." As I have experienced later, they - customs, ICE and border patrol - routinely feel that that unabridged power and attitude - rolls over into infringing on human rights as well. That is just not so and that is why me and my little pal, my mino camcorder, are there to provide some civilian, human oversight. People, especially ladies, if you are alone, never leave home without your camcorder and know your rights! My mino camcorder is like my "My Buddy" doll, where ever I go, she's going to go! Also, know your rights so that you can at least keep the pigs at bay and let them know that they will encounter some real problems if they mess with you that can possibly end up booting them from their jobs!
