The State Railways of the Republic of Turkey ( or TCDD) is the state corporation that operates the public railway system in Turkey. The organization was founded in 1927 to take over the operation of the railways that were left within the borders of the Republic of Turkey after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. The TCDD operates over 8500 kilometres of railway lines and is a member of InterRail. The company employed 24,774 people in 2008.

Totally-transport.co.uk's first railway visit of 2011. On Saturday 8th January 2011 we traveled to the GWSR to try out our new camcorder - a high definition Panasonic HDC SD60. In action was ex Turkish State Railways 8F 2-8-0 No:45160. Also running was Class 25 diesel D7612. The two locos were topping and tailing trains between Winchcombe and Stanway as part of the 'New Year Santa Specials' which were an attempt to recoup some of the massive losses caused by the heavy snow just before Christmas.
