The Tuamotuan language or ' Paumotuan', 'Pa’umotu', 'Reo Pa'umotu', 'Reko Pa’umotu' is a Tahitic language spoken by about 6700 people in the Tuamotu Islands with an additional 2000 speakers in Tahiti. It has seven dialects or linguistic areas covering Parata, Vahitu, Maraga, Fagatau, Tapuhoe, Napuka and Mihiro.
It is a Polynesian language belonging to the greater family of Austronesian languages.
Pa'umotu is closely related to the languages of eastern Polynesian including Hawaiian, Māori, Cook Islands Māori and Rapa Nui, the language of Easter Island.
