Texas Tech University, often referred to as Texas Tech or TTU, is a public, coeducational, research university in Lubbock, Texas, United States. Established on February 10, 1923, and originally known as Texas Technological College, it is the leading institution of the Texas Tech University System and has the seventh largest student body in the state of Texas. With 1839 acre (7.4 km2), it has the second largest contiguous campus in the United States and is the only school in Texas to house an undergraduate institution, law school, and medical school at the same location.

The university offers degrees in more than 150 courses of study through 13 colleges and hosts 60 research centers and institutes. Texas Tech University has awarded over 200,000 degrees since 1927, including over 40,000 graduate and professional degrees. The Carnegie Foundation classifies Texas Tech as having "high research activity". Research projects in the areas of epidemiology, pulsed power, grid computing, nanophotonics, and wind energy are among the most prominent at the university. The Spanish Renaissance-themed campus, described by author James Michener as "the most beautiful west of the Mississippi until you get to Stanford", has been awarded the Grand Award for excellence in grounds-keeping, and has been noted for possessing a public art collection among the ten best in the United States.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are members of the Big 12 Conference and compete in Division I for all varsity sports. The Red Raiders football team has made 33 bowl appearances, which is 18th most of any university. The men's basketball team has made 14 appearances in the NCAA Division I Tournament. Bob Knight, the winningest coach in men's NCAA Div. I basketball history, served as the team's head coach from 2001 to 2008. The Lady Raiders women's basketball team won the 1993 women's national championship. In 1999, Texas Tech's Goin' Band from Raiderland received the Sudler Trophy, which is awarded to "recognize collegiate marching bands of particular excellence".

Though the majority of the university's students originate in the southwestern United States, the school has served students from all 50 states and more than 100 foreign countries. Texas Tech University alumni and former students have gone on to prominent careers in government, business, science, medicine, education, sports, and entertainment.

American researchers have created a robotic jellyfish, named Robojelly, which not only exhibits characteristics ideal to use in underwater search and rescue operations, but could, theoretically at least, never run out of energy thanks to it being fuelled by hydrogen. The video, provided by researchers at the University of Texas at Dallas and Virginia Tech, shows the potential of the robot as it is powered by electricity. The paper, published in IOP Publishing's journal Smart Materials and Structures, can be downloaded from iopscience.iop.org "Hydrogen fuel-powered bell segments of biomimetic jellyfish" Tadesse Y et al 2012 Smart Mater. The wickedly addictive nature of cocaine is thought to affect long-term decision making processes more than previously believed, says a Texas A&M University researcher who has just been given a unique $1.4 million grant to study the problem. Barry Setlow, a professor in the Behavioral and Cellular Neuroscience Program in the Department of Psychology, has received a five-year grant from the National Institutes of Health to examine the relationship of cocaine and its effects on choices. What is learned from the laboratory rats exposed to cocaine could change the way health care experts look at treatment methods for humans who are battling addiction to the drug. MICROBIOLOGIST GARTH NICOLSON interview, (Sudbury, Ontario Aug. 30, 2008). Will YOUR doctor tell you about weaponized mycoplasma? About engineered mycoplasma pathogens in vaccines? Or will he or she treat your symptoms, hook you up for life (or death) on high-priced (and often dangerous) drugs? What's the real story of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Gulf War Syndrome, AIDS and other degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Crohns, Parkinson's, Huntington's, Lupus, Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, diabetes (type one) and MANY others? If your doctor doesn't know about (or isn't CURIOUS about) US chemical & biological warfare, Operation Paperclip, MKNAOMI, MKDELTA, Texas prison inmates being used as guinea pigs to test genetically engineered pathogens (mycoplasma fermentans incognitus), then get another doctor. You can't afford not to know what Dr. Nicolson is carefully, cautiously, telling us. Nicolson was a speaker at the 9th Common Cause Medical Research Foundation Conference, Sudbury Canada (Aug 29-31, 2008). GARTH NICOLSON is a whistle-blower. The kind that movies won't be made about because the conspiracy is huge, on-going, and reaches to the top. It reveals a key element (a silent weapon) in the quiet war on the 'lower orders.' But SURELY parents (and grandparents) want to know - for starters - what's going on with vaccines their children are forced to take by the Benevolent Homeland. This video is subtitled, 'Who's killing us, and ...

We placed third in this year's senior design ECE competition here at UT Austin. Here's a little information about our project: Have you ever wanted a more immersive computer gaming experience? Tired of spending hundreds of dollars on multiple monitors just to feel like you're in the game? Kinect not doing it for you? Well, look no further! In this video, our group of three ECE students (two software engineers and one power systems engineer) made a project that allows for a more immersive gameplay environment. Your head, tracked via the webcam using face-tracking software, can be used as a control input to various computer games which allows for different gameplay experiences. The motorized projector moves along with your head to give you a view angle at all times. Our open house demonstration used two games: a flight simulator and FPS military simulator. In the flight sim, you used your head as essentially a joystick to control pitch and roll angles. In the FPS, your head was the in-game player's head. When you look right, the in-game player looks right, and the projector pan/tilts to where you're looking. It's almost like you're in the game! Ideally, we would have more money (we are students, after all) to get more powerful motors, a dome-like projection screen, and the best possible pico projector for the best resolution or perhaps even glasses as a display but we felt that glasses might be too intrusive to the user. Thanks for watching! Our project was featured at the ...

Texas A&M University staged a performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" using robots as fairies. Researchers thought bringing 'bots to the Bard would be a great way to see how people respond to and interact with robots. Their findings could have implications for how robots are designed and how they are used in search and rescue operations.
