![This is for my good friend Achim. I very much liked, and bought the single of, Elvis Presley's "Wooden Heart" when it was first issued in the early sixties. The song was an adaptation by Fred Wise, Ben Weisman, Kay Twomey and Bert Kaempfert, of an old German folk song, "Muà i' denn zum Städtele hinaus". I first heard the German song in its original Swabian dialect in 1968 when on an exchange visit to Achim's family in Bensberg, near Cologne (Köln). My version consists of the English lyrics as sung by Presley, and the first verse in dialect of the German original. Apologies for my dubious pronunciation in one or two places, and also to fans of The King for not looking or sounding the least bit like Elvis!
