The Feast of "Shoghakat" of Holy Etchmiadzin commemorates the inauguration of the Cathedral of the Mother See. The foundation of the Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin was laid in 301 AD and the cathedral consecrated in 303 AD on the day of the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God. The Mother Cathedral of the Armenian Church and Nation is dedicated to St. Mary, and the feast of her foundation and inauguration is celebrated in the Armenian Church on the Saturday preceding the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God.

On September 1, the famous Gospel of Sangibaran was brought to the St. Shoghakat Monastery in Vagharshapat, from the Matenadaran in Yerevan. Throughout the day pilgrims from different regions of Armenia had the opportunity to receive blessings by the Gospel.
