Shawnee (-enʃɔːˈniːpron) is a city located in northwest Johnson County, Kansas, United States and is a western suburb of Kansas City, Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 62,209. Shawnee's fur trading and pioneering heritage blends histories of these Kansas Territory townships: Monticello and Shawnee. Shawnee has been recognized by Money Magazine in its annual "Best Places To Live" survey- placing 17th in the United States ranking, Shawnee was recognized for its affordable housing, air quality index, and median commute time. BusinessWeek selected Shawnee as one of the Best Affordable Suburbs in 2006 and 2009.

Each ticket costs $1, and the thief reportedly left with approximately $900 worth in tickets. Unfortunately for that thief, the odds of hitting a big payday are slim to none. Sally Lundsford of the Kansas Lottery said the lottery has seen this before and that there are safeguards in place to guard against stolen tickets being redeemed. That safeguard is the barcode on each ticket. "If someone tries to cash one here at the retailer, we are notified someone is trying to cash stolen tickets," said Lundsford. Until the ticket is activated by the retailer, it has no value. Shawnee police are continuing to investigate the theft.
