Roy Stanley Emerson (born November 3, 1936) is an Australian former tennis player who won 12 Grand Slam singles titles and 16 Grand Slam men's doubles titles. He is the only male player to have won singles and doubles titles at all four Grand Slam tournaments. His 28 Grand Slam titles are an all-time record for a male player. Most of his titles were won in the final years of the period where the Grand Slam events were open only to amateur players, just before the start of the open era when professionals were admitted into tennis's most prestigious events. Roy Emerson is the first male player to win each Grand Slam title at least twice in his career. In the history of tennis, only Margaret Court achieved this feat before him. He is fourth male player to win all 4 Grand Slams during his career, after Fred Perry, Don Budge, and Rod Laver. He is the first male player to win more than 11 Grand Slams in his career (this was later surpassed by Pete Sampras (14) and then Roger Federer (16)). Now there are seven Grand Slam career winners with Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal accomplishing that record.

Roy Emerson Video

1989, Michael Emerson directs a music video by the rock band Soul Guardians at the University of North Florida Art Gallery in Jacksonville, FL. The Soul Guardians are Craig Spirko (guitar & vocals), Lauren Funcham (guitar & vocals), Roy "De Stroy" Peak (bass), Colin Westcott (drums), Scott Carpenter (lead guitar & vocals), and Arvid Smith on violin bow guitar. Michael Emerson was performing with Theatre Jacksonville when they did a series of plays by Shakespeare at Metropolitan Park called "Shakespeare at the Met." Arvid Smith composed the music for Macbeth and Craig Spirko recorded the production. That is how they all met. Craig, the band leader of Soul Guardians, needed some videos for a music trade show he was attending. He asked young, aspiring actor Michael Emerson if he would direct the video. The "making of" the video was videotaped by Bill Ectric. The professional camera operator seen working in this video is Zina Bauman. "Shakespeare at the Met" is also where Arvid Smith met percussionist Lee Hunter. Lee and Arvid went on to form the popular group Tammerlin.
