Chief Guest Mr. Kalyan Ganguly, President, United Breweries Ltd officially unveiled the can which was depicted by a specially modelled 6 feet large can on the occasion. In order to capture the growing demand of the 500ml can market, the company decided to invest for this can size in addition to the 330ml cans hereby becoming a total solution provider. The new cans will be made of steel and will be primarily used to pack beer but can also be used to pack carbonated and non-carbonated drinks. The company is all geared up now to supply the 2 pack sizes in 202 and 206 diameter to the user industry from its Taloja plant. This is a huge step that the company has taken towards expansion in this sector and although the country is amidst a slowdown, the idea of launching the 500ml cans did not prove deterrent to Rexam HTW. The prime objective is to give full thrust to capture the growing Indian can market while also capitalizing on exports to the neighbouring countries. Keeping in mind the infrastructural limitations prevailing in our country it was suggested that the cans be made of steel as it makes a more robust package.
