Rafael Ferdinand van der Vaart (-nlˈraːfa.ɛl vɑn dər ˈvaːrt-Nl-Rafael van der Vaart.ogg; born 11 February 1983) is a Dutch footballer who plays for Tottenham Hotspur and the Netherlands national team. His preferred position is as an attacking midfielder playmaker however he can also operate in wider positions. Van der Vaart began his career at Ajax's famous youth academy and worked his way into the first team debuting as a 17-year-old. He moved to Bundesliga side Hamburg, then to Real Madrid, then on to Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the 2010 � 11 Premier League summer transfer window.
