Puno is a city in southeastern Peru, located on the shore of Lake Titicaca. It is the capital city of the Puno Region and the Puno Province with a population of approximately 100,000. The city was established in 1668 by viceroy Pedro Antonio FernΓ‘ndez de Castro as capital of the province of Paucarcolla with the name San Juan Bautista de Puno. The name was later changed to San Carlos de Puno, in honor of king Charles II of Spain. Puno has several churches dating back from the colonial period, they were built to service the Spanish population and evangelize the natives.

Arnel Pineda OKs duet with Jovit Baldivino abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 06/21/2010 8:27 AM | Updated as of 06/21/2010 12:32 PM MANILA, Philippines - After singing with some of the country's top talents, Journey frontman Arnel Pineda is now setting his sights on singing a duet with Pilipinas Got Talent champion Jovit Baldivino. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Pineda said he is giving his all-out support for the young Batangueño who has been dubbed the "next Arnel Pineda." "OK na OK. Mangyayari yan. I'm going to support him, syempre kababayan natin yan," he said during an outreach program in Quezon City. Pineda, who is in town after recording a new album with Journey, trekked 3 kilometers to bring food, slippers, hygiene products and toys to 100 kids in an impoverished area in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Sitio Bangkal, Quezon City. Pineda, together with volunteers from the Arnel Pineda Foundation, gave some basic reading lessons to the children. Pineda said he chose the area for the outreach after hearing about the needs of the kids. "I really hope that more help will come to them especially medical help since you will have to walk 30 minutes just to get to the place. We need to reorient them in using their resources here as alternative medicine. Sa education, we are here para maturuan sila ng moral values, family, hygiene. gusto namin ma discuss kung ano natutunan nila sa school," he said. In an earlier interview, Pineda said he put up the foundation to give street kids ...

Lake Titicaca is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world [1], at 3812 m (12507 feet) above sea level. Located in the Altiplano high in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia, at 16°S 69°W, Titicaca has an average depth of 107 m[2], and a maximum depth of 281 m. The western part of the lake belongs to the Puno Region of Peru, and the eastern side is located in the Bolivian La Paz Department. More than 25 rivers empty into Titicaca, and the lake has 41 islands, some of which are densely populated. Titicaca is fed by rainfall and meltwater from glaciers on the sierras that abut the Altiplano. It is drained by the Desaguadero River, which flows south through Bolivia to Lake Poopó. This accounts for less than five per cent of the lake's water loss, however, the rest is caused by evaporation as a result of the strong winds and sunlight at this altitude. Uros : Titicaca is notable for a population of people who live on the Uros, a group of about 43 artificial islands made of floating reeds. These islands have become a major tourist attraction for Peru, drawing excursions from the lakeside city of Puno. Taquile : The people of Taquile, off the coast from Puno, are known for their fine handwoven textile products, among the highest quality in Peru. The island attracts many tourists each year. Amantaní : Amantaní is another small island in Lake Titicaca populated by Quechua speakers. About 800 families live in six villages on the basically circular 15-square ...

An OPM Classic is not complete without this piece from none other than Mr. Rico J. Puno. A very classic Manila sound. And a classic Filipino Christmas nostalgia, too. My father bought this album, "Rico J. Puno - Spirit of Christmas", on the year it was released in the market, in 1976. I cannot forget that Christmas because it was my youngest brother's first ever Christmas with us (he was born June 1976). The record isn't as good the quality I'd wanted it to be,... but listening to it as it is is like listening to the years gone by marked by the hiss and pops on the record. A real OPM Xmas classic. And a classic memories etched in me, and for sure to many of you there. Dedicated to all my fellow Filipinos living and working overseas and far away from their loved-ones this Christmas. Mabuhay kayo! Enjoy!
