Portsmouth Football Club is an English football club based in the city of Portsmouth. The club is nicknamed Pompey. Portsmouth's home matches have been played at Fratton Park since the club's formation in 1898. The team currently play in the Football League Championship after being relegated from the Premier League after the 2009 � 10 season. Until then, Portsmouth had been a member of the Premier League for seven consecutive seasons.
Portsmouth have been champions of England twice, in 1949 and 1950, and have won the FA Cup twice, most recently in 2008 when they beat Welsh side Cardiff City 1 � 0 in the final with Nwankwo Kanu scoring the only goal. They also won the FA Cup in 1939, beating Wolves in the final at Old Wembley, with Pompey goals from Bert Barlow, John Anderson, and two from Cliff Parker.
