The district of Port Loko borders the Western Area to the west, Kambia District to the north, Bombali District to the east and Tonkolili District to the south. The district occupies a total area of 5,719 km2 and comprises ten chiefdoms. The Temne people form by far the largest ethnic group in the district at around 80% of the population. The Temne language is also widely spoken in the district both by the Temne people and other minor ethnic groups in the district. The district is largely muslim at 75%. Chrstianity account for about 20% of the population. |
