The George Foster Peabody Awards (Peabody Awards) are annual, international awards for excellence in radio and television broadcasting. They honor distinction and achievement within the fields of broadcast journalism, documentary film making, educational and children's programming, and entertainment. First awarded in 1941 for programs from the previous year, they are one of the oldest honors in electronic media.

Lambdin Kay, public-service director for WSB radio in Atlanta, Georgia at the time, is credited for creating the award, named for businessman and philanthropist George Foster Peabody, who donated the funds that made the awards possible. The awards are administered by the Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia (UGA).

The Peabody Awards were originally only for radio, but in 1948, television awards were introduced. In the late 1990s additional categories for material distributed via the World Wide Web were added. Materials created solely for theatrical motion picture release are not eligible.

In this video you are looking north from downtown off the Main Street Bridge in Owosso, Michigan. The river is the Shiawassee River - one of the few rivers in the Northern Hemisphere that flows north. In the upper left is Curwood Castle, which was built during 1922 and 1923 by Owosso native and world-renowned author, James Oliver Curwood. The great room of the castle was used by Curwood to entertain guests, and the castle's largest turret served as Curwood's writing studio. Curwood was a best-selling author of thirty-three novels, and the first author to make a million dollars from movies. More than 190 movies, short films and TV shows have been made of Curwood's books and stories, including "The Bear." Curwood Castle is now a museum that contains period antiques, and Curwood books, photos, and movie posters. It also exhibits memorabilia from the life of another one of Owosso's great native sons, Thomas E. Dewey. Owosso's Thomas E. Dewey, of course, was the famous lawyer, author, mob-busting District Attorney of New York City, three term Governor of New York State, and the Republican presidential nominee in 1944 and 1948. He is revered for running one of the most remarkably honest and effective state government administrations in history. He also passed America's first state law that banned discrimination in hiring. Just south of Curwood Castle is Comstock Cabin. It is Owosso's first permanent dwelling, which was built in 1836 by Judge Elias Comstock. Comstock Cabin also ...

One of the best new series Battlestar Galactica fan homages I've ever seen. Thanks to C. for her fabulous editing job. Take a peek at this magnificent show and the Helo-Sharon story arc [just one of many that will keep you glued to your seat]. BSG won a **Peabody Award** and you can see why. We're sorry to see it end - one half season left starting in 2009 [as of the date of this posting]. But there's still time to catch up if you haven't yet jumped on board. Sci-fi channel has past episodes available to watch, Amazon.com has episodes that can be purchased & download and the DVD's for up to season 3 are available. Be sure to watch the new mini-series intro first!! Trust me on that or you will not know what the heck is going on. (o: Also, please remember to visit this wonderful website: bsgkindreds.com They're doing great things over there to help keep the momentum going.
