Pathankot (Punjabi: ਪਠਾਨਕੋਟ, Hindi: पठानकोट -hnspəˈʈʰaːnkoːʈ) is a city and a municipal committee in Gurdaspur district in the Indian state of Punjab. It was a part of the Nurpur princely state ruled by the Rajputs prior to 1849 AD. It is a meeting point of the three northern states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. Due to its ideal location, Pathankot serves as a travel hub for the three northerly states. Pathankot is the fifth largest city in the state of Punjab in terms of population. It is the last city in Punjab on the national highway that connects Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India. Situated in the foothills of Kangra and Dalhousie, with the river Chakki flowing close by, the city is often used as a rest-stop before heading into the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, Dalhousie, Chamba, and Kangra, deep into the Himalayas.

Pathankot is also used as a gateway for Chamba & Kangra Valley in Himachal Pradesh.

Though we had not planned to go to the Punjab, we could not turn down this offer, especially when hearing that Punjabi weddings are the most stereo typical extravagant and lavish Indian weddings. After a long and delayed train journey from Varanasi to Delhi, then Delhi to Pathancot by bus, we arrived in the early hours the night before the wedding. We knew we had missed the party we were supposed to be attending that evening, and worried we may be waking Sumeet up. Soon after we called, two cars and a group of people came the bus station to pick us up. For the first time since our arrival in India, it was raining. On the bus we thought this may spoil the wedding which is held mainly outside, though on seeing Sumeet, his family and friends, who had left the hotel where the party had been held in favour of dancing in the rain, it seemed obvious that nothing would stop this wedding from being a success. From the bus station we where taken to the hotel where the nights festivities had been held. At the hotel we where warmly welcomed and offered a drink of the many scotch's on the table, and brought a feast of delicious Indian <b>...</b>
