Padang (pronounced -mayˈpadaŋ) (Minang, Malay- ) is the capital and largest city of West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is located on the western coast of Sumatra at . It has an area of 694.96 km2 (268.3 sqmi) and a population of over 833,000 people at the 2010 Census.

About 5 pm on September 30th, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck just offshore of the town of Padang in Sumatra, Indonesia. The quake toppled buildings and started many landslides, smashing homes and swallowing up entire villages. 1115 people are known to have died, an additional 3000 have been injured. It's a bit of a turn off for those that are hygiene conscious. But you must try this food at least once. Go to a place recommended by someone or a place well frequented by the locals. The flavours are amazing and the food really filling. We had tuna, eggs, egg plant, chicken, fried beef and some other bits and pieces. Nice!
