Mellette County is a county located in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,048. It's county seat is White River. The county was named after Arthur C. Mellette (June 25, 1842 May 25, 1896) who was the last Governor of the Dakota Territory and was the first Governor of the state of South Dakota.
