Captain Matthew Flinders RN (16 March 1774 19 July 1814) was one of the most successful navigators and cartographers of his age. In a career that spanned just over twenty years, he sailed with Captain William Bligh, circumnavigated Australia and encouraged the use of that name for the continent, which had previously been known as New Holland. He survived shipwreck and disaster only to be imprisoned for violating the terms of his scientific passport by changing ships and carrying prohibited papers. He identified and corrected the effect upon compass readings of iron components and equipment on board wooden ships and he wrote a work on early Australian exploration A Voyage to Terra Australis.

Made from beautiful Egyptian beads, believed to have been worn as a decorative outer garment by a young girl, the world's oldest known dress was discovered by a student of the real life Indiana Jones, the Father of modern archaeology, William Matthew Flinders Petrie. Made from beautiful Egyptian beads, believed to have been worn as a decorative outer garment by a young girl, the world's oldest known dress was discovered by a student of the real life Indiana Jones, the Father of modern archaeology, William Matthew Flinders Petrie. Thought to be about 3000 years old, this beaded dress was successfully restored in 1994 after prior haphazard attempts to envision what it could have looked like. The Excavating Egypt Exhibit at the University of Kentucky's "The Art Museum" is a major exhibition from the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology in England, featuring over 200 of Petrie's most significant finds many never before seen by the public. These objects were hidden away in secret storage facilities throughout London at the beginning of World War II and have never been displayed until now. With this world class museum exhibit from March through June 14, 2009, the University of Kentucky is rising to the top 20 echelon of universities to which it aspires.

A curious papyrus dated circa 100 BC, contains two spells to protect the mummy into the after life in ancient Egyptian lore. From March through June 14, 2009, the University of Kentucky's "The Art Museum" in the world class "Singletary Center for the Arts" displays the first public exhibition of many egyptian artifacts, some 3000 years old. The exhibit includes a papyrus from the infamous Egyptian "Book of the Dead" containing two spells to protect the dead in the after life. Excavating the land of the pyramids produced the real life Indiana Jones: William Matthew Flinders Petrie of Britain (1853-1942). In an effort to rise to the top twenty of national colleges, The Art Museum is on the frontline of the battle and winning.

The excavating egypt exhibition, is running through June 14, 2009 at the Univ. of Ky Art Museum in the Singletary Center in Lexington highlights the work of the father of modern archaeology, William Matthew Flinders Petrie (1853-1942). Many believe the Indiana Jones movies are based on Petrie's work. If so, he was the real McCoy. Hundreds of artifacts are on display including a mummy cartonnage case wrapping, a sarcophagus or outer coffin, jewelry, pottery, a sheet from the book of the dead with a double curse written on papyrus, artwork, the oldest known beaded dress on earth, and scores of other ancient objects. These are the artifacts of the ancesters of the people who the Hebrew prophet, Moses, interacted with. For museum hours and ticket prices, call 859-257-5716 through June 14 or visit www.JKLM.us and search on the term "egyptian."

www.redcliffemarketinglabs.com.au Woody Point, Queensland, Australia is a suburb on the Redcliffe peninsula just north of Brisbane. Matthew Flinders named the point 'Red Cliff Point' in 1799 due to the red colour of the iron-impregnated rocks. The first jetty was built in 1882 and promoted development of the area as visitors arrived on the Sandgate Ferry. Before this the area was largely farming land. Surrounding suburbs include Margate, Redcliffe, Clontarf and Kippa Ring. The new jetty is 240 metres long and was built in 2008. It includes informative displays, tables and seating. A fishing along the jetty is popular with locals Other points of interest at Woody Point include HMQS Gayundah shipwreck at Picnic Point. Bramble Bay foreshore including Bicentennial Park and Apex Park. Launching point for fishing boats and the Humpybong yacht club. (More on www.thedaily.com.au ) The parents at Matthew Flinders Anglican College reckon all you need for a great Melbourne Cup Day apart from fashion is good food, good company and maybe a few bottles of champagne. Under the grand title of Flemington at Flinders, the school's parents and supporters were out in force on the school's lawns today for a marquee garden party which is tipped to be memorable.
