"Marvell Technology Group Ltd., the maker of BlackBerry smartphone processors, saw its shares rise the most in more than 14 months in Nasdaq trading. Marvell advanced $1.48, or 9.9 percent, to $16.39 this morning. The company saw increases as much as 12 percent, the biggest intraday gain since June of last year. The shares had declined 28 percent this year before today. The California-based company reports third-quarter earnings of 41 cents to 44 cents a share. Analysts had predicted EPS of 40 cents on average."

Advance MicroSystems Inc (AMD) is on the decline along with other chipmakers following a downgrade by Oppenheimer & Co. amid growing concerns about a global slowdown in personal computer demand. Oppenheimer cut its ratings on AMD to "underperform" from "perform" while Intel Inc. (INTC), Atheros Communications Inc. (ATHR), Conexant Systems Inc. (CNXT), Monolithic Power Systems Inc. (MPWR) and Marvell Technology Group (MRVL) were cut to "perform" from "outperform." Texas Instruments (TXN) was lifted to "outperform" from "perform," with a $30 target. It's up 0,45% at $24.33. Shares in the Sunnyvale, California-based AMD opened at $7.34, and have traded between $3.36 and $10.24 over the past 12 months. Atheros is down 0.4% at $28.53, while Conexant is down 1.4% at $2.15, and Marvell is down 1.2% at $16.27. Industry leader Intel, however, is up 0.3% at $20.16.

Marvell Technology Group (MRVL) is due with its Q4 results after the bell tonight, and analysts polled by Thomson Reuters are expecting the company to report earnings of $0.42 per share on revenue of $924 million. MRVL has reversed direction between the sessions following earnings-driven after-hours moves in 17 of the last 26 quarters we've tracked.
