Manila Sound Video

An OPM Classic is not complete without this piece from none other than Mr. Rico J. Puno. A very classic Manila sound. And a classic Filipino Christmas nostalgia, too. My father bought this album, "Rico J. Puno - Spirit of Christmas", on the year it was released in the market, in 1976. I cannot forget that Christmas because it was my youngest brother's first ever Christmas with us (he was born June 1976). The record isn't as good the quality I'd wanted it to be,... but listening to it as it is is like listening to the years gone by marked by the hiss and pops on the record. A real OPM Xmas classic. And a classic memories etched in me, and for sure to many of you there. Dedicated to all my fellow Filipinos living and working overseas and far away from their loved-ones this Christmas. Mabuhay kayo! Enjoy!

Social Sound System www.socialsoundsystem.com Supposedly the most haunted place on Corregidor. Either way, the whole island is a trip. People died here. A lot of people died here. This island was the last stand for the Americans after MacArthur bailed and Manila fell. Bullet holes and shell craters pock mark the entire island. After the Japanese bombed the hell out of it as the remaining troops lived a giant tunnel under horrible conditions, that's when they made them do the Bataan Death March. Serious shit went down there. Serious shit went down all over the Philippines under the Japanese. And to say they were liberating the Filipinos from the Americans is ludicrous (Although I wish someone would liberate the world from Bush today). But when the Americans came back in full force, they fought the Japanese down to the end here too. Both sides lost a lot of people. There is a ghost tour too where you can camp out on the island at night... No thanX.

The Hotdogs is a Filipino pop and rock and roll band that topped the Filipino charts in the 70's to the early 80's. They made their entrance to the Filipino music scene in the 70's when disco music is in its height of popularity. It is considered one of the pioneers of rock and roll music in the Pinoy mainstream world. They led the idea of Manila Sound which exhibits light, playful sentimental sound of popular music employing the combination of regional languages Filipino(primary) and English(as a secondary language) or Taglish. Hotdog songs also portray both spectrums of typical Filipino lifestyle, mixing the lifestyles of the ultra rich and the very poor with the sweet and bustling Filipino entertainment atmosphere.

Original Philippine music - BOY This was the song that introduced me to Filipino music many years ago. When I visited Manila in the Philippines, I specially went to the largest shopping centre to buy the CDs of the songs I heard.....and the sales-lady was able to pick out all the songs I requested, although I was unable to name the singer...expert service! My sincere apologies if the words are incorrect. I would like to upload more from my collection, but I am hindered by the lack of knowledge of the language. I have however, uploaded Dahil Sa Yo by the Lettermen. www.youtube.com My latest upload- best version of Hindi Kita Malimot: www.youtube.com
