www.madburynhrealestate.com -- Tour Madbury, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Madbury, New Hampshire was first settled in 1699 and incorporated in 1775. In its early years, Madbury was a part of Dover called Barbadoes, after the West Indies island of Barbados with which settlers conducted trade, sending wood and lumber in exchange for sugar, molasses and other commodities. The name survives at Barbadoes Pond. Garrison houses were built as protection against the Indians. Later the area became part of Durham, a Dover parish which organized in 1716 and then incorporated in 1735. Madbury was once the farm of Sir Francis Champernowne of Greenland, and named after his ancient family's mansion at Modbury in Devon, England. Madbury Parish was granted for the first time in 1755, and town privileges were granted in 1768. Now primarily residential, Madbury is a thriving commuter town near the University of New Hampshire, Rochester, Dover, and the Seacoast region. Residents enjoy the community's gorgeous natural landscape, easy access to Boston and Maine and excellent views along the Bellamy River and Little Bay. For other town tours visit http .
