Lund University ( ), located in Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden, is one of northern Europe's most prestigious universities and one of Scandinavia's largest institutions for education and research, frequently ranked among the world's top 100 universities. The university was founded in 1666 and is the second oldest Swedish university, but can arguably trace its roots back to 1438, when a studium generale was founded in Lund.

Lund University has eight faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 27,780 students in more than 274 different programmes and 2000 separate courses. It belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network.

The university traditionally centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.

Divers Arne Sjöström and Martin Lundahl sampling pine wood for dendrochronological dating, during the project Havsresan 2009. An archaeological and geological survey was made of the c.10.000 years old sunken forest in Verke å submarine river valley, Hanö bay, Scania, southern Sweden. Project coordinator was the Department of Engeneering Geology, Lund University. In the film you can mainly see the thick layers of detritus gyttja that was deposited over the pine forest in the old river valley. When the sea level of the Baltic Sea rose, after the ice age, the river mouth was blocked and large lagoons were formed behind the sea shore line. After some time the river lake sediments was also drowned by the sea. During the transgression of the sea the huge sand dunes, that formed the valley slopes, was eroded and the gyttja banks were formed in the way we see them today. During the survey of the banks in 2009 we found a large fish trap made of hazel stems, worked animal bones and other indications of human activity in the lakes. The gyttja sediments and pine stumps have been analysed and C14-dated by Gaillard, M.-J. & Lemdahl, G., 1994. The Holocene 4. Filmed by Martin Lundahl, Malmö Sportdykarklubb (MSDK) with a Canon G9 camera.

Participating in EAP Sweden offers you new perspectives on yourself as well as on the world around you. It is quite simply the experience of a lifetime. As a result, many students (like Meghan in this video) choose to extend their EAP Sweden stay (after having arrived in Sweden).
