The station was built because three lines cross at the this point. The station is located towards the southern end of Merseyrail's Northern Line. The three lines that form the interchange are: * The Merseyrail urban Northern Line. * The Liverpool to Manchester line via Warrington. * The Liverpool to London line via Crewe on the Liverpool branch of the West Coast Main Line. Allerton Traction Maintenance Depot is situated to the immediate east of the station. |
