Rovers lost the final which was their fifth defeat in their fifth final. During his time at Sligo Rovers he played over 60 games scoring 11 times before he signed for Finn Harps in 1982.

Patton was a left winger who made his debut for Bohemians in a League of Ireland Cup tie against Shamrock Rovers in September 1983. He impressed as Bohs won 2-1. However, he only spent one season at the club, making 10 league appearances and scoring 1 goal.
