The Lebanon national football team is the national team of the Republic of Lebanon and is controlled by the Federation Libanaise de Football Association. It is affiliated with the Asian Football Confederation. It has never qualified for the World Cup finals. The closest they have come was the qualifying for the 2006 tournament, where a win against Vietnam in their last group match would have seen them progress to the group stage ahead of the much favoured Korea Republic. Lebanon also hosted the 2000 AFC Asian Cup, but failed to get past the group stages as the team lost 4 0 to Iran and tied Iraq (2 2) and Thailand (1 1).
