Kerkouane ( ; occasionally Kerkuane) is a Punic city in northeastern Tunisia, near Cape Bon. This Phoenician city was probably abandoned during the First Punic War (c. 250 B.C.), and as a result was not rebuilt by the Romans. It had existed for almost 400 years.

Excavations of the town have revealed ruins from the 4th and 3rd Centuries BC. Around the site where the layout is clearly visible, many houses still show their walls, and the coloured clay on the facades is often still visible. The houses were built to a standard plan, in accordance with a sophisticated notion of town planning.

A sanctuary has some columns preserved, and in a small atrium parts of mosaics are found. Curbstones, doorsteps, thresholds, and floors of simple mosaic layers are found all over the ruins. Still archaeologists work on the Kerkouane site, but it is believed that the best parts have already been discovered.

Kerkouane was one of the most important Punic cities, with Carthage, Hadrumetum (modern Sousse) and Utica.

Archaeologists attach great importance to the ancient ruined city of Kerkouane. It is the only Punic city that has retained its original form and has not been altered or rebuilt by subsequent cultures. To the present, archaeologists have uncovered a long, horseshoe-shaped area of approximately 500 m revealing an outline of alleys and streets. Unlike Roman design, each house had its own private sanitation system, which was connected to an extensive canalization network. The majority of the floors were decorated with mosaics and most of the dwellings also had their own small well. The buildings were constructed in various ways using many different techniques and baked bricks, as well as clay, were among the main building materials. Some of the ruins contain floor mosaics that are still in very good condition and the tiny marble stones of the mosaics were sometimes used in special designs such as the so-called 'Tanit Symbol', that is a recurrent motif in the entrances to the dwellings and gravesites outside the town.
