Karl Anthony Malone (born July 24, 1963) is a former American professional basketball player.

Born in Summerfield, Louisiana, he was nicknamed The Mailman in college for his consistency ("the mailman always delivers") and his work in the post. Malone twice won the National Basketball Association (NBA) Most Valuable Player award. He is generally considered one of the greatest power forwards in NBA history, and has scored the second most points (36,928) in NBA history, trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

On May 30, 2007, Malone was named director of basketball promotions and assistant strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, Louisiana Tech University.

Malone spent his first 18 seasons (1985 - 2003) as the star player for the Utah Jazz, forming a formidable duo with his teammate John Stockton. He played one season (2003 - 04) for the Los Angeles Lakers before retiring.

Malone's jersey was retired on March 23, 2006, when the Jazz hosted the Washington Wizards. He was also honored with the unveiling of a bronze statue outside the EnergySolutions Arena next to teammate John Stockton, and the renaming of a portion of 100 South in Salt Lake City in his honor. The location where the statues stand is now the intersection of Stockton and Malone.

Vicious sledge-hammer elbow by Karl Malone on Isiah Thomas back in December of 1991. The hit caused Isiah to get 40 stitches near his eye. Ironically enough, Malone would only get ONE-game suspension. Dominique Wilkins once said of Karl Malone and I quote " You're a cheap-shot artist. You're not a man. You always go out there to hurt somebody smaller than you." Thus a very bold statement maybe there was some truth in it afterall, U decide ?!?

Behind a solid performance from their leader and the greatest player to ever lace up basketball shoes, the Chicago Bulls won their fifth championship in seven years, beating Utah 90-86 in game six of the 1997 Finals. Michael Jordan scored 39 points and pulled down 11 rebounds - but it was the last of his four assists that made all the difference. MJ knew Stockton would leave Steve Kerr to double on him, so after drawing the double, Jordan swung the ball to a wide open Kerr who calmly sank the game-winning jumper. Kerr finished with nine points and played a big role in leading a Bulls charge late in the game. Scottie Pippen scored 23 points. Karl Malone scored 21 to lead Utah and Jeff Hornacek put in 18.
