Jonathan Henry Jay (born March 15, 1985 in Miami, Florida) is an outfielder who plays for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is nicknamed "The Founding Father" due to the fact that he often starts off innings with hits and also shares the name of the famous American revolutionary. He was drafted by the Cardinals out of the University of Miami in the second round (74th overall) of the 2006 MLB Draft. Jay played high school baseball at Christopher Columbus Senior High School in Miami, Florida, where he won the state championship his senior year.

Jay made his Major League debut on April 26, 2010. On July 27th starting Center Fielder Colby Rasmus was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays as a result of Jay's performance over the last year, leading him to take over for the recently traded Rasmus. During the Major League Baseball trading deadline, the Cardinals acquired Rafael Furcal who has worn number 15 throughout his career, forcing Jay to change to 19.
