At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, he won the gold medal in the 100m backstroke. He was also a member of the winning USA relay team in the 400m Medley Relay. Prior to the 1996 Olympics, he was second in the 100m backstroke at 1992 Summer Olympics; where he also set the World Record in the 100m back, leading off the men's 400m Medley Relay. He also won the 100 back at the 1991 World Championships in Perth, Western Australia. He was inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2001. In college, he swam for, and attended, Stanford University. |
