The state has witnessed violent protests since June 11th and more than a hundred people have died in the protests. The government of India's northern Jammu and Kashmir state has begun the process of removing 16 security bunkers from Srinagar City on Tuesday. This is part of the federal government's peace initiatives to reach out to the people of the Kashmir Valley. As I was coming from my house, I saw that the security personnel were removing the bunkers. So I think it is a better step. It will improve the condition of Jammu and Kashmir and particularly Kashmir provision." The federal government decided to appoint a group to hold sustained dialogue, to release around 200 youth detained for stone-pelting, and to cut down the presence of security personnel. It had also requested that the state government review the deployment of security forces in the Kashmir Valley, and review the notification of areas as disturbed areas. The bunkers have been there more than 22 years, since an insurgency emerged in the valley. Kashmir has witnessed violent protests since June 11, when a 17-year-old boy was killed after a tear gas shell hit him during clashes ...
