Itanagar ( ) is the capital of the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Itanagar is situated at the foothills of Himalayas. It comes administratively under Papum Pare district.

As a capital city, Itanagar is well connected with the rest of the country by road and air communications. There is a helicopter service between Guwahati and Naharlagun (Itanagar). Buses are available from Guwahati. The nearest railway station is Harmoti in Assam.

Interesting places around are historical fort called Ita-fort which dates back to the 15th century (after which the city is named), legendary Ganga Lake or Gyakar Sinyi and the new Buddhist temple known as Buddha Vihar consecrated by the Dalai Lama. As of today, Itanagar has two churches.

Important economic activities include farming and agriculture.

Regarding institutions Arunachal Pradesh has got one of the finest and premier engineering and management institute named NERIST(North Eastern Regional Institute of Science And Technology) which was founded by ex president Gyani Zail Singh.

Losar means NEW YEAR . This is one of the main festivals of Monpas (tribe) of Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh .On 28 February 2010 this festival was celebrated at Siddharth Vihar Monastery in Itanagar . Many dances were performed in eye catching costumes and traditional caps of all shapes made from Yak hair.Dances were accompanied by very soothing music.

'Mithun' (Bos Frontails) exists both in wild and semi-domesticated form. Although it is also found in Nagaland and in other states of North East in small number, Mithun is especially seen as an important animal of Arunachal Pradesh. The reason is, unlike other states, this animal has religious significance and intimate relation with socio-cultural life of the people in Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to social and traditional values, the economic values of mithun is also very high. The cost of mithun at present, ranges from Rs 25000� 40000 per head. This, despite the fact that Mithuns are physically weak animal and are not fit for draught purpose. Adult female mithun can produce 1-1.5 litres of milk in a day and therefore cannot be considered for milch purpose. A Mithun usually has alife span of 25-30 years To generate awareness about the Mithun and the threat of extinction that it is facing, a two-day festival called 'Bos Frontalis' Festival 2010 was organised in Itanagar in the month of May by the Mascot Network Society and the Centre for Cultural Research and Documentation (CCRD). The event tried to generate awareness about the Mithun, its cultural significance, conservation as well as its importance as a folk icon. Indian Council of Agricultural Research or ICAR also has a special National Reearch Centre on Mithun (NRCM) in Nagaland's Medziphema.
