Interstate 40 (I-40) is the third longest major west - east Interstate Highway in the United States after I-90 and I-80. Its western end is at Interstate 15 in Barstow, California; its eastern end is at a concurrency of U.S. Route 117 and North Carolina Highway 132 in Wilmington, North Carolina. Much of the western part of I-40, from Oklahoma City to Barstow, parallels or overlays the historic U.S. Route 66. I-40 intersects with eight of the 10 primary north - south interstates (all except I-5 and I-45) and also with the major Interstate routes I-24, I-30, I-44, I-77, and I-81.

2.50 min. | 4.83 user rating		 During the May 24, 2011 high risk outbreak, storm chasers John Esterheld, Nicole and Don Giuliano and Heidi Farrar tracked a large wedge tornado from eastern Caddo County into Canadian county in central Oklahoma. This long-tracked destructive tornado eventually grew to roughly one mile wide before crossing Interstate 40 near El Reno and continued northeast toward the communities of Calumet, Piedmont and points northeast.

This is additional footage of the large, rain-wrapped wedge as it approached from their wsw, crossed Interstate 40 at Calumet, then continued its path northeast. This massive tornado caused extensive damage along its 65 mile path, with the communities of Calumet, Concho, El Reno, Piedmont and Cashion being especially hard hit.

Chris followed the tornado along Interstate 40 as debris was being tossed into the air. After the tornado roped out and died off, Chris stopped to help out a truck driver that was hit by the tornado. The truck driver was alive and shaken up but by the looks of his truck, he was very lucky as the truck was mangled. Chris stayed with the drive until the police were able to get to the scene. This beautiful tornado hit a semi truck as it crossed the interstate and blew the debris from it into the air. The driver of the semi was ok and only received minor injuries.
