From 1990 to 1997, the show was produced by the TV station, Telefe, but in 1998 Marcelo founded his own independent company so he could produce the show himself. He also started to produce different genres including fiction and game shows. In 2005, Tinelli caused huge controversy when he decided to move his show, Videomatch (which was retitled Showmatch for legal reasons) and Los Roldan, the two highest-rated shows in the country at the time, from Telefe, the leading TV station, to number 3 net Canal 9. While the move did not affect Showmatch, which continued to be the most watched show in the country, it affected Los Roldan which ended up losing over 50% of its audience. In 2006, he moved to Canal 13 and Artear, which owns the channel, bought 30% of the company. Since then, he produces exclusively for the channel. While financially it was a good move, this decision limited the producing company possibilities since the prime time in the channel is completely dominated by Pol-ka, which means Ideas del Sur could only produce for the afternoon slot, generally targeted to younger audiences. Because of that, Sebastian Ortega, who was in charge of the fiction unity, left Ideas and founded his own company, Underground Contenidos. After a failed attempt in producing traditional telenovelas (Collar de Esmeraldas, a remake of smash hit novela Perla Negra, was a huge flop) for the afternoon slot, Ideas started to produce fiction targeted to kids and teenagers, competing directly with Cris Morena Group. While the first season of Patito Feo was a huge hit and beat for the first time a Cris Morena show, the second season and Atraccion x 4 were both flops. Ideas is currently producing another children-oriented fiction: Consentidos. |
