Hill County is a county located in Northern Central Texas. As of 2008, the population was 35,637. Its county seat is Hillsboro . The county is named for George Washington Hill, a secretary of war and secretary of the navy under the Republic of Texas, surgeon, and an early settler of the area. Thus, the county's name is derived from the name of an individual as opposed to any geographic feature, and as a result, Hill County is not a part of Texas Hill Country.
