Hardin County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. It was named in honor of Col. John J. Hardin, of Illinois, who was killed in the Mexican-American War. The population was 17,534 in the 2010 census, a decline from 18,812 in the 2000 census. The county seat is Eldora.
