Hancock County is a county located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of 2010, the population was 30,676. Its county seat is New Cumberland . Hancock County is the smallest county in the state, and the farthest north, being at the tip of the state's Northern Panhandle. It was created from Brooke County in 1848, and named for John Hancock, first signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Hancock County is part of the Weirton-Steubenville, WV-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area.
