Gresini Racing is a motorcycle racing team currently competing in the MotoGP World Championship under the name Team San Carlo Honda Gresini. The team was founded in 1997 by two-time 125 cc world champion Fausto Gresini, after the end of his racing career.

In 1997 with a Honda NRS motorcycle and Alex Barros as the rider the team managed a podium finish. The team reconfirmed Alex Barros in 1998 and got the Honda NSR500 from Honda.

In 2000 the team entered Daijiro Kato and the new Honda NSR 250 in the 250 cc championship. In 2001 Daijiro won the title and in 2002 the team returned to MotoGP with Kato as a rider as Fortuna Honda and near the end of the season it was given the new Honda RC211V. The 2003 championship began with Sete Gibernau joining the team from Suzuki bringing Suzuki's Telefonica Movistar sponsorship with him. After the death of Daijiro Kato at Suzuka, the team integrated Kato's number 74 into the their logo out of respect for him. Sete Gibernau went on to win 4 races and a second place in the championship that he dedicated to his late team mate.

In 2004 the Spaniard fought for the championship and finished runner up. His team mate, Colin Edwards, finished fifth. Sete Gibernau remained with the team for 2005 and was joined by Marco Melandri. Melandri won two races.

In 2006 the team lined up Marco Melandri and Toni Elias with Elias bringing Fortuna sponsorship back to the team. and got 4 wins, 3 for Marco Melandri and 1 for Toni Elias. Both riders remained with the team in 2007, albeit losing the Fortuna sponsorship. The team also changed its tyre supplier to Bridgestone. The new 800 cc Honda RC212V did not deliver the results expected and the team finished the season with 2 podiums.

For 2008 Alex de Angelis and Shinya Nakano joined the team, with a new sponsor - San Carlo.

For 2009 Toni Elías re-joined the team, replacing Shinya Nakano who deferred to World Superbikes.

In 2010, Marco Melandri re-joined the team after a turbulent period riding for Ducati and Kawasaki, with 2008 250cc champion Marco Simoncelli announced as his new teammate. The Gresini team won the inaugural Moto2 division with rider Toni Elías aboard a Honda powered Moriwaki chassis. In the MotoGP division, Simoncelli finished eighth overall while Melandri ended the season in tenth place.

For 2011, Marco Simoncelli rides a factory Honda as part of the Gresini team, whilst Hiroshi Aoyama rides a satellite Honda for the team. Simoncelli has been competitive at the top end of the field but has been inconsistent so far this year.
